Introduction to Maritime HeritageShort term educational cruises are offered to school, scout, church and special groups wanting a taste of real tall ship sailing. The rich mystic of sailing ships has played a major role in our history, economics, commerce, government, sport, art, and religion. Each had it’s lessons that contributed to what has made America great. The ship it self is a virtual applied science lab with all of her rigging and systems. Those persons fortunate to sail and work these marvelous sailing craft of blended practicality of multiple systems, find that all of their skills and talents are challenged to have a well run efficient ship. This program provides a variety of hands- on activities and several 10 to 15 minute talks on topics including nomenclature, maritime history, sailing, maritime arts, physics, navigation, marlinespike, seamanship, marine wildlife, and the like. Our general program can be easily modified to accommodate any particular focus for a given class. The trip last about 1-1/2 hours and typically is offered in the morning and early afternoon May, June, Sept., and early Oct. WINDY is a member of the American Sail Training Association.
