The WINDY is a 148 foot traditional four masted gaff topsail schooner/Tall Ship.
Built of modern materials, but like the old trading schooners and sail training ships,
the WINDY has all the character and charm of the great Age of Sail.
We are proud to bring you new and exciting Educational Programs, creative and inspiring Tall Ship adventures each day and evening.
Sample our signature tour-- "Real Pirates of the Inland Seas", which takes you on a voyage of discovery about how pirates plied the Great Lakes,
and the daring folks who defended our shores! Cruise our pages for many new seafaring adventures and special events,
all departing from our home base on Chicago's best loved tourist destination, Navy Pier!
She is silently pushed by the winds once her sails are set and engine turned off.
The WINDY fully meets all appropriate United States Coast Guard regulations. Windy can accommodate up to 150 passengers.
Highlights for 2013
These educational cruises are offered to school, church, scouts, corporations, and other groups.
This program provides a variety of hands-on activities and several talks on topics including maritime history,
sailing, maritime arts, physics, navigation, marlinespike, seamanship, marine wildlife, group dynamics and the like.
Call to discuss your desires, as we can design an event for your students.
We already have a great program for badge work for Girl Scouts! Programs are designed for each group.
Much more details are located on the Education page on the web site. In 2012, over 8,000 students sailed with us!
Also, did you know we have a volunteer crew program? Ask the crew about it while you are sailing with us.
||Please note that WINDY is NOT "Handicapped Accessible" as it is considered an adventure activity. Access to the main deck is six stairs with hand rails (sometimes the ship is moving from waves),
no ramps are available.
